THE BILLING TYPE SIMPLIFIES HOW A JOB IS BILLED. Each billing type has built-in rules that Clients 7 Profits uses to manage how a job gets billed. All new jobs get a job-based billing type by default, which gives them the most billing flexibility. Anyone who opens jobs can choose a billing type, and a job's billing type can be changed until has costs (i.e., time, vendor purchases, or expenses).

✳️
When a new job is opened, select a billing type from the drop-down menu. Anyone who opens jobs can choose a billing type, and a job's billing type can be changed until has costs (i.e., time, vendor purchases, or expenses). The job billing types include:
JOB-BASED BILLING
Job-based billing is the default and offer the most flexibility to bill anything, anytime. It may take several moments to update the list if there are many records to list, or if the server or network is busy; you can cancel updating by clicking the Cancel button. When a lookup list is used later, it opens immediately; however, it does not show any recently-added records. Updating a lookup list brings it current.
FEE-BASED BILLING
Fee-based jobs are not billed directly, but instead are paid for by a master fee job that bills the client. It may take several moments to update the list if there are many records to list, or if the server or network is busy; you can cancel updating by clicking the Cancel button. When a lookup list is used later, it opens immediately; however, it does not show any recently-added records. Updating a lookup list brings it current, showing everything added into the database so far. You can update a lookup list on some windows anytime by either clicking the Show All button or reselecting an option under the Show pull down menu.
RETAINER-BASED BILLING
Retainer-based jobs are billed like a regular job, but are paid off using the client's retainer balance. A retainer billing type has no affect on how the job handles estimates, deadlines, or job costing. But if a retainer job is billed in Accounts Receivable, the biller will be automatically prompted to apply a retainer payment when the invoice is saved. Also, it indicates to the account team that the job is part of the client's monthly retainer.
PRO BONO JOBS
Pro bono jobs aren't usually billed, but have that option if you need it. Pro-bono jobs are usually unbillable, so will keep track of all of the job costs based on your shop's costs but won't calculate use a markup. So pro-bono won't have a unbilled total on job summary reports. However, you'll able to make pro-bono jobs billable (for example, if you're only billing some costs but not time, or if you're grossing up costs are a lower rate; it all depends on the arrangement you make with the pro-bono client. Pro-bono jobs will appear on the Job Billing Worksheet if they have billable costs.
IN-HOUSE (NON-BILLABLE) JOBS
In-house jobs are those done for the shop and are non-billable. These jobs cover work you do for yourself, excluding new business pitch jobs (which are different; see below). In-house jobs will never be billed and any job cost will appear as "in-house" on job cost reports.
NEW BUSINESS PITCH JOBS
New business/pitch jobs aren't usually billed either, but can be billed for all of some of the pitch's costs, depending on your arrangement with the potential new client. Costs for new business pitch jobs can be billable or unbillable, depending on what you need for a pitch (for example, you might bill time only, or maybe bill at lower rate). If a new business pitch job has billable costs, it will appear on your the Job Billing Worksheet so you can bill it; otherwise, you'll only see them on job reports. You can add new business pitch jobs for existing clients.
